Residents of Wollombi Valley and surrounding areas are invited to participate in the annual Scarecrow Competition as part of the 2015 Wollombi Country Fair. This year residents will again have the opportunity to display their scarecrows throughout the Wollombi Village from 1st July until the 30th August, with winners announced at the Fair on Saturday 29th August 2015 at 6pm, just prior to the Lantern Parade.
There is no theme this year, but entrants are encouraged to construct scarecrows from recycled / reusable materials. There will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes. We encourage individuals, families, school groups and businesses to take up the challenge and let their imagination and creative skills create some eye-catching entries to showcase our wonderful community.
A big Thank You to these businesses for donating prizes.

Participants must email details of their scarecrow entry to the organisers using the FORM AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE. We will allocate you a position in the Wollombi Village in which to display your scarecrow. All participants MUST register their scarecrow prior to it being displayed as this allows the organisers to ensure that the scarecrow does not obstruct stalls during the Fair. All scarecrow entries in the competition are to be erected in the Wollombi Village bythe end of July, to allow time for judging.
All judging will done by an expert panel of scarecrow enthusiasts, with winners announced at the Lantern Parade muster on Saturday 29th August 2015. They will be notified by email/phone and announced in the October issue of OON.
Judges will be considering the following things when making their decision:
There will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes. Judges decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
The shape, form and material of your scarecrow is only limited by your imagination. However, to ensure the safety of Fair visitors, scarecrow height is limited to 2m. It is the responsibility of the entrant to ensure the stability of the scarecrow and all due consideration of the safety of the public must be taken when constructing your scarecrow. Please take into consideration the durability of your scarecrow in case of rain. It is preferable that your scarecrow is free standing i.e constructed on a wooden stack or something similar, however there will be places available to erect scarecrows along fence-lines, such as next to the real estate.
Entrants are encouraged to take photos of their scarecrows during construction and of the final product. These will be used for advertising on the Fair Facebook page and Website.
